SOTS Announcementđš
Hint: æŸ€ć±± ăȘă
HI(GH) GAY!
Itâs been over a month since Iâve last sent an email, but the Wybrations Spotify playlist (she/her) stays fairly up-to-date with favorite songsâfeel free to give her a like and listen, especially great for when youâre missing me in long-form <3
Best New Songs !
đ„SOTS: âThis Hellâ by Rina Sawayama
Song. of. the. summer.
I repeat, songggg of the summmmerrrrrrrrrrr! !! !!!
Iâm pushing this narrative so hard because this song isnât charting yet (đ„ș) so please spread the word.
Rina Sawayama (æŸ€ć±± ăȘă) has come for our jugulars with the new pro-Hell single that ironically just builds the case for Godâs existence even more. Pop perfection. Ten out of ten. No notes.
The song feels inspired by Shania Twain and Lady Gaga, for the country-pop banger of it all.
And her live performance gives a nod to Caroline Polachekâs So Hot Youâre Hurting My Feelings. Itâs worth watching and learning the dance because this song will probably go viral on TikTok in a few months.
This is obviously #1 on the playlist.
đ€âHollowâ by Flume ft. Emma Louise
With the best melody of any new Flume singles and, of course, that quintessential drop, this is hands-down my favorite off the new album, Places. This song is a must-listen and aptly at #2.
The whole album has pretty much been on repeat.
And because of his close relationship to and artistic influence from Sophie, Places is my favorite new album right now. Her maximalist hyperpop influence is most apparent on the album opener Highest Building.
đ€âNo One Dies From Loveâ by Tove Lo
Of all the Toves, Tove Lo is def the dopest.
Her music ages like fine wine and hits like a nice joint.
I just know weâll be dancing to this song years from now, feeling very nostalgic for summer 2022. This better be on your summer playlists!
âĄïž good 4 u youtube video
And if youâre a Sour stan like me, you should also listen to Toveâs cover of âgood 4 u.â
đ€âD.M.B.â by A$AP Rocky
Canât stop listening to this song. The last 45 seconds of this song are complete euphoria to me.
âD.M.B.â aka âdat my bitchâ is an ode to billionaire and retired pop queen, Rihanna. Proudly representing spot #4 on the playlist.
đ€âDonât Forgetâ by Sky Ferreira
This is Sky Ferreiraâs first single in 3 yearsâand it gets better with each listen; a grower. The chorus will be stuck in your head for hours after, and that, to me, is a good indicator of a great pop song.
Pitchfork annoyingly called this song âpretty unmemorableâ and âblandâ but thatâs just because theyâre petty and annoying like that since her sophomore album has been very delayed and P4K did a huge piece on Sky Ferreira back in March 2019 to build excitement for it.
Itâs a great song though.
đ€âHome Makerâ and âSelfish Soulâ by Sudan Archives
One of my favorite new artists of the last 5 years, Sudan Archives, out of LA, has two new beautiful singlesâand theyâre worth adding to whatever playlists youâre working on at the moment.
The choruses are catchy AF and the production makes you wanna bounce.
Excited for whatever else she releases next.
đ€âOtro Atardecerâ by Bad Bunny and The MarĂas
This collab with The MarĂas has a very different vibe than the rest of Bad Bunnyâs discography. Itâs chill and soothing and I think I need to take a trip to Puerto Rico soon.
Much like the entirety of his new albumâŠ
đ€âMusic For A Sushi Restaurantâ by Harry Styles
Youâve probably listened to Harryâs House by now, and have your own favorites, but this was mine.
Itâs a good album but Iâm not as obsessed with it as I was Fine Line. Maybe I need some time.
đ€âThe Oneâ by M.I.A.
Ever since I saw her documentary âMatangi/Maya/M.I.A.â Iâve been a huge M.I.A. fan.
Sheâs truly a legendâfrom the success of Paper Planes, which was produced by M.I.A. and Diplo, to giving the middle finger at the Super Bowl with Madonna and Nicki Minaj.
This song is catchy and if she loves up to her promise in the lyrics, it looks like weâll be getting some M.I.A. bangers soon.
She autotune-sings: âThis time I'm gonna flip the whole thing / New era I'm gonna bring it in / To the basics / Get the club bubblingâ
Iâm so excited about this.
đ€âpapi bonesâ by FKA twigs and shygirl
I wrote about this mixtape-album a few months ago but this one particular song has made its way back to my top played songs as of late.
The melodies are outta this world. Vocals are spicy. As Bella would say, âBig Slay.â
đ€âBIZCOCHITOâ by ROSALĂA
Currently obsessed with this song, and I blame the TikTok sound that goes like, âyouâre honorâŠyouâre honor Iâm slayingâ and then this song starts playing.
Who doesnât love a 1m49s song?
Itâs absolutely been on repeat since her latest album came out.
đ€âHere I Go Againâ by Mindchatter
Iâve been really into Mindchatter lately. Itâs vibey, groovy, and not overdone. High-ly recommend checking him out, there are a few songs from his new album on the Wybrations playlist for you.
đ€âGOOD TIMES / PROBLEMZâ by JUNGLE
Give JUNGLEâs new music video for their two new songs a watch. Itâs impossible to not smile.
These songs are giving happy songs for the summer but not in a radio-obnoxious Pharell type of way.
đ Brief follow-up from last emailâŠ
Since last time, youâve hopefully been streaming Doechii religiously.
She recently performed a medley of Persuasive and Crazy on Jimmy Fallon and I was absolutely floored. Go watch it NOOOWWWWW.
Thanks for reading and, as always, if you liked what you read, forward it to someone you like!
